Some people believe that being an empath means that they have a superpower, but the truth is that an empath is very human. As a matter of fact, they are so human that they have a hard time understanding their emotions. They know their emotions and they feel them but they experience a lot of discomfort that can cause them to have bad situations.

An empath might feel alone in their life because of the feelings that they have and they are able to feel things that others cannot. Here are some myths about being an empath:

Never Getting Angry

An empath will get angry just like anyone else. They are people that have strong emotions, but it doesn’t mean that the emotions are going to always be positive. There are negative emotions that the empath will feel as well. This can mean that an empath is uncomfortable with their anger, and it can cause an empath to feel that things aren’t fair in their life.

If an empath is in a relationship, the angry feelings can cause the partner to feel that they are not treated fairly and it can cause them to not understand why things don’t work out well. An empath is someone that knows that there are emotions but they might not realize that they need to set boundaries. This can lead to anger and that needs to be something addressed.

An Empath is Always Empathic

Empaths are not going to always be empathic. They are human beings and they sometimes do not have the emotions that they need for others. Sometimes an empath will not be as empathic to others when they aren’t being shown the empathy from someone else.

Empathic People Are Not Leaders

Empath people are not people that give in easily. They can compete in things and they can be great leaders. People that have strong emotions make some of the best leaders. An empath that is curious and intelligent is one that is able to understand others and to work with groups.

Those that have strong emotions usually have courage and bravery and they will be able to trust what others are doing and to gain the trust of those around them. This means that they can lead people. People that have no empathy do not sympathize with others and this can cause other people to not respect them or to not trust them.

The person that has power might be temped to save someone that is in need, but this can be self-serving for them because they need to be able to allow their feelings to go to use. Saving others isn’t always a good thing though and it can cause the person to miss out on their self-efficacy and empathy requires selflessness.

When you work with a team, an empath will be able to understand when someone is hurt over having an opinion or an idea. This means that an empath that is a leader will be able to ask everyone for their thoughts without there being a time of judgement.

If things start to get out of control in the meeting, the empath can shut down the meeting. When the meeting is going good though, the empath will be able to reward the people there and to share their creative juices and perspectives.

Sometimes though empathy is mistaken for weakness, and this can cause problems in the workplace. The person that is empathic is sometimes overwhelmed by their emotions and it can be hard on other people. When someone is aware of what they are doing and learning from these mistakes, they can change what is going on and they can work on their emotions. Some of the strong emotions sometimes seen are hurt, anger, shame and confusion but the empath can work on this.

People that don’t have empathy will not be aware of what others are feeling. They sometimes are not comfortable with the emotions of others, and they have little self-awareness as to how they affect others. They are not able to have healthy insight to what is going on in their feelings. This can lead to things such as envy and wanting to destroy others because of jealousy. When a person doesn’t have empathy, they can become envious.

Even empaths struggle with their emotions. They might be anxious and feel stressed out a lot. They might expect others to be empathic towards them and find that this doesn’t always happen. Sometimes they will even be treated poorly for their thoughts. When someone sees them as an overthinker, this can cause them to be in an environment where they are used or mistreated. It is safe for an empath to keep their feelings to themselves until they see what kind of situation that they are in and if it will be healthy for them or not.
